Käthe Kruse Dolls - a German
Legend
The Käthe Kruse Doll Studio is
the oldest German doll
company that is still existing
and working in the traditional
way. Handwork, simplicity of
design, integrity, and an
aversion to gimmicks and
fads are still very much a part
of how the dolls are made.
Each doll and item of doll
clothing is made by hand and
takes from 16 to 36 hours to
make. During that time, it will
pass through the hands of 8
to 10 craftspeople and artists.
Käthe Kruse Toy Catalog 2006
“The hand follow the heart...”…
This is and has been Käthe
Kruse’s workshop motto for
nearly 100 years. “A doll has
to be something a child can
love”, another one of Käthe
Kruse’s mantras. One
hundred years later all dolls
and toys are still made by
hand. Yet today the company
has grown and the name
Käthe Kruse is synonymous
with toys as well as children’s
room accessories. Hugging,
grabbing, listening, touching,
feeling, splashing, laughing,
delighting, loving, all these
terms represent a Käthe
Kruse toy. Children’s needs
are our focus when choosing
designs and fabrics and
natural materials are used as
much as possible.
